It’s a new year, and for many people, that means a new fitness routine. If you’ve decided to start running at the park or hitting Boise Iron Gym after work, you may be wondering how your hearing aids will fit into the mix.
Hearing aids don’t have to hold you back from meeting your fitness goals. They can even add to your experience! Let’s take a look at a few hearing aid-friendly fitness tips to help you get your heart rate up without damaging your devices.
1. Choose Sweatproof Hearing Aids

If you’re in the process of getting your first hearing aids, look for styles that are specifically designed to withstand moisture. Many modern devices come with water-resistant or moisture-repellent coatings. If you already use hearing aids that aren’t sweatproof, invest in moisture protection accessories like sweatbands or hearing aid covers.
2. Secure Your Devices
Although hearing aids are designed to fit snuggly in or around your ears, high-intensity exercises may dislodge them. To help secure your devices, wear a loose headband around your ears or use a lanyard to attach them to your shirt.
3. Remove Hearing Aids When Swimming
Swimming is a great exercise to get your heart rate pumping without putting unnecessary wear on your joints. Unfortunately, water and hearing aids don’t generally mix. If swimming is part of your routine, remove your devices before diving in. Wait until your ears and hair are completely dry before putting them back in to prevent moisture from entering your hearing aids. If you have newer, waterproof-rated hearing aids, it’s still a good idea to check with your hearing aid specialist before diving in.
4. Clean Your Devices
Just like you freshen up with a shower and a change of clothes after a tough workout, your hearing aids need some care, too. Make it a habit to clean them after each session. Wipe away sweat with a soft cloth and clear away any accumulated debris or wax with a hearing aid wax pick.
Following these four tips will help you keep your hearing aids safe so you can focus on what matters—enjoying every moment of your workout. To learn hearing aid care, contact Southwest Idaho ENT today.
